While working with Katia Cadet at the Montreal jazz festival, I met an interesting man who was arranging the musicians accompanying Katia. He was a professor at Berkely School of music in Boston. We had taken a minute to walk thru the festival and in conversation he stated that in working with so many “talented” musicians the single most important thing is to define what success means to you. This casual statement in the middle of a long conversation has resonated with me ever since.

Success is easy when you know what success is to you. It’s an interestingly simple statement. Since the shortest distance between two points is a straight line and life is short, it is important to define exactly what “success is" to you. I am amazed at how this simple statement has changed things for me. Give it a try.

Thanks Randy, simple and profound.
To me, time is one of the most valuable things in life. A "success" is a person who spends most of their time doing exactly what they want to do.
