I love seeing finished work at shows and from photo shoots, but then find myself wondering about the lead up to the finished look. What went on with the preparation of everything? I decided to give you a peek into what went into the prep of my 3 models presentation for Pravana VIVIDs. This is from yesterday in Orlando, FL.
I flew in the day before and decided with time constraints and model hair limits, I would bring 2 wigs and hairpieces. I purchased these from His & Her Hair Goods. I went with very inexpensive human hair wigs. $70 ea. A great wig can be easily over $1000. I also love making something inexpensive turn out great.
In the week leading up to the show, the wigs and pieces were colored. I use containers from Smart & Final then mark the formula on top with a Sharpie. I measure everything with a digital scale.
I set all of the hair in California with a 19mm clipless Enzo Milano iron and protected the hair from the Florida humidity in ziploc bags!
For the wardobe I decided to opt for an arts + crafts session once in my hotel. I brought a $20 roll of art paper, a roll of clear tape + a stapler. The plan was to create 3 paper dresses! Luckily you will see I had the help of Jenn Schoolcraft & her sis Alyssa who witnessed my feat on Facebook and volunteered to jump into my madness at Midnight. I'm no dummy and took them up on their offer. Alyssa made a great dress form which I desperately needed given the ONLY 3 hours of red eye flight sleep I was working off of. (You will also see them below when they returned at 6a.m. to help get the models stage ready. Big enough thank yous cannot be garnered)
Paper roll at the airport!
Just 5 hours later, Jenn & Alyssa help painting the dresses with VIVIDs! (I am behind the camera if you haven't figured that out yet! :)
Once at the show, Stacie Kowalski (aka POWERHOUSE) of Pravana, never left my side. I am convinced there is NOTHING this woman can't do. Jenn & Alyssa posed for one final picture before they set off to enjoy the rest of the show!
Models: Selby, Mai & Willow were super amazing. Trust me when I say navigating through 60,000 people on a hair show floor is difficult enough when your radius is not 3 feet! The dresses were cut off them to use the restroom and eat lunch, then reattached. I LOVE tape, but you probably already know this about me. ;)
Jenn did make-up for all 3 models as well.
And now for the formulas! ALL Pravana VIVIDs...
