All our lives we are told what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. How much of what you do and think genuinely comes from you? Don't get me wrong, we need teachers. Mentors can teach you to cut lines and shapes, but they cannot give you a point of view (other than theirs) any more than someone can teach you to like strawberries. YUM. When I mentor a young stylist I get to point where I will no longer tell them what I think because I feel that they need to make the transition from student to artist. Artists (in my opinion), shouldn't need approval from others. When you finish a cut or color and your client or model stands up and shakes her hair, at that moment you will know to the deepest part of your heart if you did your best work.
We are a wonderful profession where we can make people look and feel good. AND we get paid for it!
All I am saying is YOUR WORK, YOUR NAME.
