Early on in my career, I discovered a book that changed my life and my artistic vision. Wabi-Sabi for Artists, Designers, and Philosophers by Leonard Koren. I recommend that ANY artist read it, regardless of your methodology. I will say that it leads to a more free flowing and organic style of haircutting; I will also add that before you can move freely in your craft, you need to learn strict fundamentals - I drill this belief into my team.
