This past Monday, we had an in-salon class on the art of consultation, hosted by Lee and Kerri. We were reminded of the importance of taking the time with every client, at every visit, before anything else goes on in the chair, to speak about the goals for the day with that client. it looks like the time has come to dust off the old box of perm rods and brush up on our techniques. the need for poker straight hair has given way at last to a look that has more movement. clients are looking for waves and big curls as opposed to the perms of the 80s era, which were tighter wash and wear looks. of course, we can play on that too, getting into some new shapes that have tons of curl, but with a modern finish. fortunately, there are great products available to us,and many…

lately there have been a lot of images that remind me of the 80s,which was the era my career began. i remember how much fun it was to do different styles on each person who sat in the chair- fades, boxtops, asymmetricals, undercuts, big hair, curls for days, crazy colors, spikes and rocker shags. there were so many groups representing themselves- preppies, punks,wall streeters,wannabees,new wavers and so on, it was so much fun to learn each new cut or style and put my spin on it.
