- I am Chris Rushton a passionate and enthusiastic hairdresser. I grew up in the industry around my mother who was a excellent example of a talented hairdresser and educator that I strive to be. I studied cosmetology at the Aveda Institute Washington, DC. I first became interested in the Beauty Industry when I realized the industry had so many different outlets to express my creativity and passion! What inspires me most about the industry is that everyday can be something new to learn and that education is on going. Since graduating and achieving my license I have realized that I have a beautiful career waiting for me. I have continued to brand myself and produce Youtube videos online about hair,makeup,photo shoots, and self improvement and have racked up 1.7 million hits. Have you ever thought what's my learning type? Chances are you probably have an idea or do not have an idea. Understanding learning types can be helpful as hairstylst. We educate are clients/guests on regular basis in the salon about what were using, what we recommend, why where using it, how they could do this or that, and just in general. But, I love the concept and will try a fourth time. The nice this about it is you learn more each time you enter. I love many of this years winners. The look great.

- First, for someone with only a few years of experience, your work is admirable, so hats off to you:) I have entered NAHA 3 times. I've worked with very expensive photographers and novices. I've loved all my entries, but never became a finalist in the Contemporary Classics Category. It took me 3 entries and a butt load of money to realize its no so much about cutting or color, its high art, dramatic,and conceptual, often over the top. That does not mean it lacks skill. While the retouching does not bother me ( I shoot and work with great retouchers who just clean up dark circles and remove nose rings adjust light etc. and make really really nice) its more the lack of purity that gets to me. I do wish there was a NAHA category for Hair Cutting and Barbering. Without the use of extensions, wigs, weaves, batteries, light bulbs, balloons. The photos are great to look at and many are genius, they just do not necessarily reflect the craft we do and work to perfect everyday on our clients, models etc. I've kinda given up on entering NAHA but its a great show.
