I just did my friends hair. I usually just do a partial. When I first started doing her hair I did a foil and color in between then after that just foils. So I just got done with her hair we did a partial and I put 3/4 6n 1/4 6g in between and when all said in done it looks kinda muddy almost grey even. What can I do to fix it?

New! 2010 Professional Salon Haircolor Study for USA shows Salon Haircolor Product Sales Grow 3.2% Post Recession/Service Dollars Grow 3.3%

Dallas—August  2011—Professional Consultants & Resources, (www.ProConsultants.us), the leading strategic consulting company and professional beauty industry data source, has released its NEW, in-depth 2010 Professional Salon Haircolor Study.

The 2010 Professional Salon Haircolor Study shows US salon haircolor product dollars growing at 3.2%—the fastest growing major product category—in an economy emerging from recession. (In comparison, overall salon hair care growth was 4%.) Growth comes primarily from increased salon visits and minor price increases in demi/semi permanents and permanents. Haircolor services grow by 3.3%, as consumers’ frequency of salon visits and demands for haircolor services start to rebound.

Some of the major findings detailed in the 2010 Professional Salon Haircolor Study are:

  • Haircolor makes a big comeback and is projected to grow to mid-to-single digits by 2015.
  • Salon Industry distribution realignments have abated, so all salon haircolor companies can grow.
  • Haircolor is the “AXIS SERVICE” that generates other salon services and sales for haircare products.
  • Salon haircolor services  grow 3.3%, as booth rentals continue taking share from leading salon chains.
  • Demi & semi permanents  register a much higher growth and nearly double the overall category.
  • Permanents grow at slower rates. Growth is lower than the category rate and indicates a new trend.
  • Crèmes & gels now totally surpass liquid haircolor sales in the United States for a major paradigm shift.
  • L'Oréal is the undisputed category leader with Matrix, Redken, L'Oréal Technique and Professionnel.
  • P&G grows in full-service and follows closely behind with Clairol, Wella and Sebastian divisions.
  • Goldwell/KPSS ranks third and Schwarzkopf follows, both with flat to minor gains.
  • Newer category entrants, like Sally’s ION, Paul Mitchell, JOICO and TIGI, continue to steal market share.
  • New haircolor companies, like IT&LY, Davines, Alfaparf, Pravana, Aloxxi, Davines will grow the category.
  • Major, unique, new products and line extensions in 2010-2011 are covered.
  • L'Oréal’s INOA launch has mixed results in salons. Future still uncertain on pricing and performance.
  • The study features haircolor trends from top US master colorists.
  • Study covers hot hairstyle and haircolor trends, like the “Beckham Bob," the "Pob,” “Mop,” “Aniston,” "Hollywood Glam," "Peek-a-boo" and their market impact.
  •  "Simple Cut N' Color" service demand at booth rentals. Multi-chromatic face framing highlights are hot.
  • Future US Market Haircolor products needed by Master Colorists and leading salons and chains.

“A really surprising finding is that Sally Beauty’s ION brands have grown so dramatically that they are now the fourth largest haircolor marketer, behind L’Oréal, P&G, Goldwell and Schwarzkopf,” says Cyrus Bulsara, president of Professional Consultants and Resources.

New sections on haircolor shipment market shares for all leading haircolor corporations/by divisions show L’Oréal, P&G, KPSS/Goldwell and Schwarzkopf as leaders. Sally, Paul Mitchell, Farouk, Aveda, Framesi, TIGI and JOICO follow.

Electronic copies are now available for immediate transmission and hardcopies by overnight.

This is for the Davines colorist.  I'm curious about the tones that may be added to bleach.  What is the chemistry behind this.  If your bleach contains persulfates they eat pigment and they can't distinguish between artificial and natural pigment.  How does it make chemical sense to mix a tone into a persulfate bleach?

Hey Johnea,

I know this is in response to an old post but the milk proteins and the fact that Mask color has a neutral pH when it's done processing is why the hair feels so good just after you rinse out the color.

Hey ANthony,  I am an exclusive Davines colorist.  The entire line from styling aids, shampoos and conditioners  to color is the best I have ever used.  When I rinse a color client at the bowl the hair feels like they just had a deep condition, yet I h ave not even shampooed them yet.  Davines offers more than one bleaching system and the one that you are referring to is L'art Decolor.  WIth this amazing system there are 6 direct-dye pigments that be infused into the bleaching system: Brown, Violet, Yellow, Red, Blue & Orange.  -And yes, they work AND stay on tone.  I have to say that their Mask (permanent) and Mask Light (demi) are the BEST colors I have ever encountered.  I am so spoiled by Davines product that I do not think I could switch to anything else.  -Regardless of distributor issues, which I too, have encountered.  You must be firm and direct in your dealings and all will be well.  I LOVE this line.  Good luck and feel free to contact me with any questions that you have.  I believe it will be the best choice you make for your salon.  Good luck!
