in regard to  senior staff,I believe in holding seasonal "trend" workshops where all senior staff are required to attend and present  this is an opportunity to share with each other. Also make it known that you will be evaluating  the work ,and based on what you see you will reward performance with opportunity,and/or some type of gift.,Possibly a photo shoot or education

I am a new owner so I haven't had any experiences yet regarding re-testing Sr. Staff.  For myself, when I was a senior staff member in another salon I always took classes that would "bring me back to basics" such as pure form, etc (even if I had taken them before).  I wish I could be more help!  Thanks for this group.  I am excited to learn from other owners and their experiences.

Discussions with my Sr. Staff about building a training calendar for the new year went south when I asked them to perform a demonstration of basic training skills. I feel they may have felt put on the spot or fell it may be beneath them to re test on a yearly basis. I feel strongly about assuring the quality of training we provide our younger staff. As a Sr. Stylist, the position requires mentoring and educating our Apprentice staff weekly. Any feedback on requiring an annual re test or brush up on skills within your own salon would be welcomed. How was it initiated and was it mandatory? Thanks!
