Hi! Relocated to St. Paul, MN almost a year ago but lived in the Bay Area for 7 years. SF still dear to my heart-I miss it all...everyday.

not entirely sure if i agree with that....how drs need to be using social media, as do hairdressers, im looking forward to reading the article...however, before reading it i will chime in and say that i am already feeling spread a little thin with all these media options, and keeping up with them is great, but my life is already so full! advanced education at various salons/acadamies, being in touch with clients, keeping staff inspired and happy, managing retail, having a home life....and now social media! its a bit time consuming when you are new at it, and i cant say i love how often i am in front of the computer lately just trying to keep up! but i love being a part of all these conversations....so... i will read the article and chime in if i am swayed differently.

There was in interesting article today in USA Today about how doctors need to be using social media (Twitter, Facebook, blogs) if they want to be relevant. I think the same thing goes for hairdressing.

Do you think it's impossible for hairdressers to network because the industry is so competitive?

Not at all. Actually, I believe it is a great way to share creative ideas to try something fresh, or get excited about learning a new skill to generate income. Business ideas can be shared and it is always nice to have an industry collegue close to home to connect with. We are in a creative business, and sometimes we need help to think outside the box. I do not live in San Fran, but in the Bay suburbs, but I may try to show up and check it out.
