Hey- my salon is looking to hire some stylists.  Does anyone have any suggestions on a way to go about this besides Craigslist which we have used in the past but haven't had the greatest luck on?…Continue

Its the beginning of a new decade, which surely means new fads in everything from our electronics to our hair. One thing that seems to be here to stay as far as mens' hairstyles, are fades. Fades have been a classic hairstyle for years and they've evolved into somewhat of an art. Men are always looking for the best barber or hair stylist to give the cleanest fade, line-up, taper/ blow-out, graphic designs and even fade mo-hawks down to the razor! Rationally as stylists we want to keep up with the latest trends. After years of trial and error we have developed a flawless clipper technique! Go to www.howtofadehair.com for your first step to success!

Cell phones, texting is a no no in areas where clients are contacted, simply for curtisy & keeping focus on the work. Emergency calls go thru, but every thing else will get staff into trouble, they've ample time to do personal stuff in the right place & time.

Sue! I am happy you brought up the topic of texting/ "facebooking," in the salon. This is something that seems to be an ongoing issue in the workplace. Our team no has a, "phone box," in our break room. Here the hourly stylist can text, "facebook," ALL THEY want when they are clocked out ONLY. We also have a no cell on the floor policy for ALL stylist. Cell phones on the floor will result in penalty out of respect for each other and first and foremost our guest. This is a topic that was discussed during a team meeting, and once the issues were brought to attention our stylist agreed upon no cells while on the clock. Just a little feedback for the moment, I would love to touch bases more on the subject and hear some more feedback and ideas from everyone! Thanks!!

:) Christy

Mentoring isn't only a source of teaching, but a source for learning.

Hi Christy, Thank you for the invite, I'll contribute as much as I can, I've entered the education realm of " Determinism" which means the elmination of chance. Only possible thru Attitude, Knowledge , understanding, planning and execution!!!

This isn't exactly about educating, but more mentoring- what are people doing about the over usage of cell phones to text during the day and facebook instead of using time to learn or service guests to the fullest that are in the salon.  My salon is "team based pay" so regardless, team members are making an hourly wage which makes it even more frustrating as a senior stylist, educator and mentor.  HELP!  And it goes without saying that I try to lead by example, but sometimes that doesn't work.
