I was wondering as a newer booth rental salon..just what type of rental charges are out there...per day, per week, part- time vs fulltime...etc...I realize it's based on location and whether a receptionist is available in the salon. So...give some ideas....if you can...I'm open for your thoughts....what's the average out there?

Hi barbara...

There is no average rent, it depends on the size of the town, or City and the prestige of the salon.

In many small, local salons, the rent is $125 per week.

In Manhattan you might get $1000 a week for the chair, sometimes more...

As a salon owner it's better to charge weekly rents as there are 5 weeks in some months. If you charge monthly there are only 12 rent checks, if you charge weekly there are 52.

Part-time rentals are hardly worth the bother, you'd want to charge 20% more for part-time than full time unless 2 stylists share the chair and split the full rental.

Most renters don't care about receptionists these days, everyone has a cell phone and they have message-center. If a call comes in while they are working on a client they can call back as soon as they have time.

They take their own money, they don't need a receptionist for that either, in fact you might want to be careful of co-mingling funds in a common cash-drawer, that's one of the red-flags that the IRS use to determine whether a worker is an Independent Contractor or an employee.

The rent that you can charge is limited to what people will pay, just like your service prices.

Awesome, thank you for your thoughts....I have found rent is somewhat based on location and city etc....size of salon and walk-in opportunites and traffic. I agree with a full-time rent more preferred and a weekly charge collected monthly would be ideal. Again, thanks for your thoughts...very helpful :)
